Life of a Public Relations Intern

Hi, welcome to my site! My name is Annabella and for my site I will be creating a blog that details my experiences along with the tasks I face in the world of Public Relations. I am currently interning at a public relations firm in New York City. The company I am working for is called Cindy Riccio Communications. I have been getting a lot of insight on the day to day job of a public relations career. The company I work for deals with a wide range of industries. We handle companies involved with food like Simply Protein, fashion like DKNY, and health and wellness like Newby Teas. This blog is here to give you guys a first hand look at not only what my day to day tasks and experiences, but also to get a good understanding as to what the people I work with are doing too. There are many things people don’t know before going into an internship, especially all the information needed to know when going into an internship in public relations. This blog is targeted for any audience who in interesting in public relations, marketing and advertising, and people looking to understand the role of having an internship. For people who aren’t sure as to what type of PR field they want to go into, this blog will inform the on what each industry that my company works for is like. This blog will include images, videos, and real life examples so that people can feel as though they are gaining real knowledge that is hands on and easy to understand. Viewers will also see the struggles and issues that both I and the company may face. Learning how prepared I am along with how unprepared I was. This page will be informative and interesting to a large group of people and may spark peoples interest to think about joining the field of PR.
My header image is a photo of New York City. This photo conveys the city I am interning in. I feel as though it gives a good visual as to where I am working everyday. Having an image of the location as to where I work can provide people with a good visual to think back too.The source where I found my images was on Creative Commons. The reason I know I am allowed to reuse these images is because they were publicly put on a site that owners of the photos know that people have accessibility of their photos. All owners of photos consent to people reusing their photos for their personal use.To create the multi layered image that I have as my header, I used Pixlr. On Pixlr I uploaded to two images that caught my eye. I then used the transparency effect on the top image so that it would blend into the image of new york city. I didn’t want my image to be to strong or harsh looking so I used the smoothing effect to place on the edges of the top photo. Overall I feel as though this image really captures what my blog is about. I feel as though the production process of creating a single layer image is much easier then creating a multi layer one. A multi double one takes more time and concentration. The way that both are similar is that both require creativity and skill. One must understand the ways of editing but also get the photos from the right place.
Attached above is an in detail video that goes over the application known as Cision. Cision is a software company and services provider that allows agencies to target, engage, measure, and integrate. I feel that people who are going into the fields of public relations, marketing, and advertising especially related to internships will find this video very useful. They will gain a better understanding as to what cision is, why it is used, and how it is used. In the article “DIY videos on Youtube: Identity and Possibility in the age of All,” by Christine Wolf, she explains that ” By examining how the social and material aspects of YouTube are entangled in search practices, we can see how these experiences might work to narrow, rather than widen individuals information worlds.” This perfectly exemplifies how useful and effective this video will be to those who watch.
In this podcast I will discuss the nonprofit organization Raising a Reader and what the benefits are to reading. Specifically I talk about how reading has been scientifically proven to lower levels of stress, anxiety, and depression. Throughout this podcast I discuss 5 benefits and reasons as to why reading lowers those symptoms in an education 7 min talk. An equally good source of information would be https://readingpartners.org/blog/four-compelling-reasons-shut-off-screen-open-good-book/ where a lot of the information they provide specifically goes over the benefits of reading in regards to mental health.
I want to also make note that I collaborated with Frank who’s website is https://bookiepopworks.business.blog
I also collaborated with Andy who’s website is https://sillyreviews.game.blog/
Another collaboration was with Nikos who’s website is https://sketchbookmusic.art.blog/
And lastly I collaborated with Emma who’s website is https://emmagaribianphotography.wordpress.com/

time it can definitely be demanding and tiring. I have been doing a lot of the same tasks, so after a while the internship becomes slow and repetitive.
Like in Davidson’s framework he talks about the purpose of memes and why they are used. A meme is supposed to lighten the mood and be realistic. Most memes say exactly our mood in that moment, and the above meme does just that.

To wrap up this blog I wanted to discuss the things I took out of this course. I learned a lot and was force to step out of my comfort zone. Between creating a website, posting a podcast and creating a tutorial of a tool I use everyday during my internship, this class definitely allowed me to show off some of my skills and gain new ones. I can now confidently say that I know the functions of creating a successful website, something I didn’t know how to do before this class. I also worked really well with the groups I was partnered with. Learning how to portion the work evenly and rely on each other to get things done efficiently and on time was definitely something we were successful at. I learned how to better communicate within a team virtual and get the results we were looking for. Like my internship, I was faced with tasks I had never done before. Creating a podcast where I made a script explaining a topic smoothly for seven minutes was definitely not easy, but I was able to do it. Sometimes you need to be pushed in order to see what you can really accomplish. Overall I really enjoyed this class and all that I learned from it. I felt that the lessons were very easy to understand and very interactive. I equally enjoyed the readings. I feel like the readings were on point with the course and never were unenjoyable to read. Like in an internship you are put in a position to show off your skills and learns some new ones. In this class it was just like that. I brought my own skills into every assignment and projects and left each one with more knowledge and skills that I will be using in my future endeavors.
